WHAT IS MOLE MAPPING?

Mole mapping  uses both photography and dermoscopy imaging to evaluate multiple and suspicious moles.

Dermoscopy is the examination of the skin using skin surface microscopy. Dermoscopy is mainly used to evaluate pigmented skin lesions.

The digital mole map photos are stored for later viewing to see if any moles have changed.

Dr Spengane has FOTOFINDER machine to do mole mapping.

WHO SHOULD COME FOR MOLE MAPPING?

• Those at a high-risk of melanoma due to a previous personal history of melanoma or immediate family history of melanoma
• More than 50 moles
• Many atypical and unusual moles (moles that are large or have a mixture of colours, unusual shape or irregular borders)
• History of severe sunburns as a child or adult
• History of extensive use of sunbeds

DO MEDICAL AIDS COVER MOLE MAPPING?

Most medical aid scheme do cover mole mapping depending on your plan and option cover. Please enquire about your cover with your medical aid prior to booking  your appointment for mole mapping.
