DR ZANDILE SPENGANE
She went on to complete her internship in the East London Hospital Complex and did her community service at Grey Hospital in King Williams Town in 2012. It is as Grey Hospital that she was exposed to various skin conditions especially those associated with HIV. This sparked her interest in HIV medicine. In 2013, she spent a year as a Medical Officer in Internal Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town. She then ventured into community healthcare working at a clinic in Khayelitsha, Cape Town in 2014 – April 2015. She obtained her Diploma and Mphil in HIV/AIDS Management from Stellenbosch University in 2014 and 2015.
In May 2015 she was appointed as a dermatology registrar at the University of Cape Town, Groote Schuur Hospital. In 2017, Dr Spengane won the Strauss and Katz World Congress Fund Scholarship. This is a scholarship aimed at young dermatologists from third world countries, including those still in training, to attend the AAD’s (American Academy of Dermatology) Annual Meeting for educational and networking opportunities. Her research titled “Blood and virus detection on barber clippers" was selected for poster presentation at the prestigious congress. Dr Spengane was awarded a distinction for the same research which was completed for her MMED (Master of Medicine).
Dr Spengane became a Fellow of the College of Dermatologists of South Africa (FC Derm SA) in October 2018. Dr Spengane opened her private practice at Life Knysna Private Hospital in 2019. She focuses on general dermatology, dermato-oncology, dermatopathology, infectious skin disease, drug reactions and paediatric dermatology. Her services are geared towards the detection and comprehensive treatment of all skin conditions and diseases.
